Looking for a great Volunteer idea for Earth Day next month? Start a Volunteer Crop Mob. What’s a crop mob, you ask? Well, it’s a little bit like . . . . . . . Oprah’s Flash Mob Dance, but with wheelbarrows! While Crop Mobbers might not be volunteering to the grooves of the Black Eyed Peas yet, they do gather spontaneously in large groups for only a few hours on farms that need help with mulching, building greenhouses and pulling rocks out of fields … and they have a blast doing it. New York Times writer Christine Muhlke participated in a Crop Mob and explains what it’s like in her recent article. And there’s no reason that backyard and community gardener’s can’t mob too! Here’s how you can organize your own Crop Mob: click here. If you’re planning a Volunteer Mob like this or have participated in a Crop Mob, let us know – submit your comments and photos here. We’ll help spread the word!
