We scored one of the best invites yet of the summer, and it surely had to be one of New York’s most talked about parties leading up to the big holiday weekend. In a gigantic warehouse under the Brooklyn Bridge, the house music was loud, the bar was open, and the crowd was truly beautiful – inside and out. More than 2,000 people partied, danced, ate, and drank … and helped assemble food kits to provide 150,000 meals to New Yorkers in need this weekend.
This was Target’s Party for Good, and it wasn’t just good, it was amazing.
To celebrate volunteerism at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service and to help combat hunger facing many children and families across New York City, Target hosted this one-of-a-kind event, “Party for Good: Making Meals to Feed Young Minds.”
It had all the obligatory ingredients for a good party – infectious music, club lights, a big center stage with surprise performers. There was the buzz of several celeb sightings –Singer Gavin DeGraw, American Idol’s Katherine McPhee, 90210’s Tristan Wilds, and “The Insider” host Lara Spencer were just a few we spotted.
But what made this party GOOD was what was happening off-stage. With the help of spirited Target employee volunteers, a festive assembly line was rocking to the right of the stage, as several party-goers happily mingled and moved to the music filling boxes with products from Target (oatmeal, multigrain pasta and canned chunk white tuna) and Procter &Gamble (hygiene essentials). Each kit provided a family of four with three meals a day for three days, just in time for the fourth of July weekend. In just three fun-filled hours, partiers filled 4,000 boxes that were loaded on a truck to be delivered to the Food Bank For New York City at Basketball City (Pier 36 @ South Street). 150,000 meals for families this holiday weekend. And we had a blast doing it!
In many ways, “you had to be there,” to really feel how truly Good this party was. And the best part about this party? The hangover was even GOOD!
