As the largest infected population in the world, South Africa is home to over a million people living with HIV or AIDS leaving  approximately 2 million orphaned children. As a native of South Africa, Charlize Theron has committed herself and her Africa Outreach Project to reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among African youth by supporting and collaborating with other aid organizations. For instance, their first collaboration came with Oprah’s Angel Network when they created a mobile health and computer clinic designed for improving the health and social development of South African children. Then, in the summer of 2010 they partnered with the ONEXONE foundation in an initiative called Home Field Advantage (HFA) who’s goal was to build soccer fields with clean water sources that gave the community a place to gather that is also outfitted with their Mpilonhie mobile health vehicles. What’s even more amazing is that these mobile clinics now help over 8,000 community members and 10,000 students from 12 high schools. Theron says, “Every child should have the right to know their status and how to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS.  If they don’t have this information given to them in this environment, they would be victims of their circumstances.” Experience the positive impact they are making everyday and   learn more about Charlize’s work.  And if you’d like to help the Africa Outreach Program, please donate on their website.
