GirlForward provides teenage refugee girls now living in the far North Side of Chicago with self-empowerment, leadership, and educational resources to make their resettlement a safe and successful transition. For 2012, GirlForward is currently seeking passionate and culturally-minded female adult volunteers (ages 18-35 years) who would like to become a mentor to one of these girls and help guide them in becoming strong, independent women. As a mentor, you will join your matched mentee for a few hours each week and offer her support in academics, social interaction, community service, relationships, and career development. The mentorship program requires a one-year commitment, and volunteers should be dedicated and willing. Individual and group mentoring training is provided. Knowledge of a second language is helpful, but not required. Complete the application on GirlForward’s website to get started, and a staff member will contact you with further instructions. Be ready to share wisdom and wellness with a young woman in need!
